Marvin Hilton “Hilt” Buckalew, Sr. age 85, lifetime resident of New Egypt, passed away on January 21, 2024 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton. He was born July 21, 1938 in New Egypt to the late Marvin B. and Lottie V. (nee Bell) Buckalew. Hilt worked in the maintenance department for the Plumsted Township School District along with working at Challender Fuel and Oil and Prices Auto Recycling. He was a member of the New Egypt Methodist Church. Hilt enjoyed camping and going fishing and hunting. He was also a member of Woodruff Gun Club. Hilt was interested in antique tractors and steam engines. He enjoyed spending time at the beach with his family. Hilt was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend that will be deeply missed. Hilt is predeceased by his parents; his siblings, Marion Hance, Carolyn Bishop and Shirley Savage, a grandson, Jeffrey Buckalew and a daughter-in-law, Lisa Buckalew. He leaves behind his wife of 68 years, Maude (nee Hawley) Buckalew of New Egypt; four children, M. Hilton Buckalew, Jr. and wife Joanne of New Egypt, Keith Buckalew and wife Nancy of Laurel, DE, Cheryl Mohr and husband Carl of New Egypt, and Jeff Buckalew of New Egypt; seven grandchildren, Shaun and Margie Buckalew, Amy Billings and fiancé Mark Lenarski, Keith Jr. and Kelly Buckalew, Melissa and Steve Jaczko, Kyle and Meredith Mohr, Justin and Crystal Buckalew, and Josh Buckalew; thirteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marion Pullen of Allentown and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service for Hilt at 1 PM at the New Egypt United Methodist Church – Atkinson Hall, located at 9 Fort Avenue, New Egypt, NJ 08533 with interment to follow at Emley’s Hill Cemetery located at 69 Emley’s Hill Road, Cream Ridge, NJ 08514. Calling hours will be from 10:00 AM until 1 PM at Atkinson Hall.
