Melvin A. Klein, age 87, of Manchester Twp. passed away Friday, March 17 at The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ with his loving family by his side. Born in the Bronx, NY to the late Emile and Sadie (nee Epstein) Klein, he lived in Emerson, NJ before moving to Manchester in 1985.
Melvin served in the US Army during the Korean War. He taught Civil Engineering at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. Melvin also taught martial arts and owned and operated his own martial arts supply store, KAM Industries in Emerson. He was an Auxiliary Policeman for the Emerson Police Department and coached Westwood Baseball. Melvin also enjoyed playing golf at the Hanover Golf Course and his trips to Atlantic City.
Melvin is predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Gloria Litman and Arlene Donnelly. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Karen (nee Dec) Klein; two sons, Eric Klein and partner Marina Furmanov of Hoboken and Paul Klein of Haskell; two daughters, Karen Paret and husband Roy of Mahwah and Andrea Grundt and husband Bruce of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren and a great grandson.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, March 22 from 12:15 until 1:15 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533 with burial to follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562 at 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Melvin's memory may be made to either the Jersey Shore Animal Center, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick, NJ 08723 (www.jerseyshoreanimalcenter.org/donate/) or St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (www.stjude.org/donate/) or to a charity of the donor's choice.
