Madeline J. Gilbert, age 74, longtime resident of Ripley, West Virginia formerly of New Egypt, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Mountain View Health Care Center in Ripley, WV. She was born on December 13, 1949 in Allentown, NJ to the late Victor and Mary Ella Gilbert. Matty enjoyed going shopping, especially for dolls for her collection. She liked to do word puzzles and crossword puzzles. Matty enjoyed gardening and growing her many rose bushes.

Matty is predeceased by her parents, and by her siblings Sarah Gilbert, Helen Silverman, Caroline Bozarth, Katherine Gilbert, Geraldine Gilbert, Evelyn Gilbert, Marie Gilbert, Gene Gilbert, Charles Gilbert, Clifford Gilbert, Raymond Gilbert, Jesse Gilbert and Virginia Young.

She leaves behind her beloved companion of 51 years, Russell Mergogey; her step-daughter, Holly Ann Mergogey. She also leaves behind her siblings, Wayne "Red" Gilbert and wife Loretta, Vincent Gilbert, Judy Orts, Shirley Fite and husband Sam, Maryann Austin and husband Mike, Irene Gilbert, Betty Miller and good friends, Penny Walters, and Alberta Surdick; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral Services for Matty are being held private at the convenience of the family. All arrangements are under the direction of Tilghman Funeral Home located in New Egypt, NJ.
