Leona E. Edgar, age 90, of Browns Mills and formerly of New Egypt, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at AristaCare in Manchester, NJ. She was born in Cassville, NJ to the late Clifford and Lelia Hopkins on May 27, 1930. Leona enjoyed staying home to raise her family. She took great pride in her children and later on, in her growing family. She loved to go shopping, sewing and gardening. Leona also had an extreme love for cats, but her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend who will be deeply missed. Leona is predeceased by her parents; by her husband, Charles F. Edgar; by two daughters, Joyce Michalchuk and Rose McCall; by three grandsons, Howard Stein, Jr., James Stein and Mark Richmond; and by her son-in-law Howard Stein, Sr. She leaves behind her two daughters, Linda Stein of Browns Mills and Tracy Labate of New Egypt; her brothers, Kenneth Hopkins and Harry "Buddy" Hopkins; her sister Pearl Papp; eleven grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and her dear friend Hazel Goff. Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 from 10AM to 12PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, located at 52 Main Street, New Egypt, NJ 08533. A funeral service will begin at 12PM, with burial to follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Jackson, NJ. Due to COVID-19 social distancing and facial coverings are required. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tilghman Funeral Home to help with interment costs.
