Obituary for Karl- Heinz Alfred Firch of Whiting, NJ Karl-Heinz Alfred Firch or "Heinz", 91, of Whiting, New Jersey was born August 5, 1928 in Essen, Germany. He was apprenticed by Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz of Essen. He was conscripted into German Army/Labor Force at the young age of 14. At 16 he surrendered to the US Army and was held as a POW for 4 months. After the war ended, he worked for the famous Zeche Zollverein in Essen. He later immigrated with his wife and children to the USA where he worked as a millwright for US Steel Corporation, from which he retired from. He was a life member of the German American Society of Trenton. "Heinz" left us on August 3, 2020, a few days shy of his 92nd birthday. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife Johanna, his long-time companion Margot Savage, and is survived by his son Heinz, his daughter Silvia, grandchildren, numerous relatives in Germany and many friends from the German American Society of Trenton.
