Lisa M. Rogers
August 28, 2010

Lisa M. Rogers of North Hanover Twp., passed away, Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly. She was 43.
She was born and raised in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan before moving to North Hanover Twp. 8 years ago.
Lisa was a U.S. Air force veteran. She was a member of the V.F.W. in Cookstown, N.J.; A member of the Sault Ste Marie Chippewa Indians. Lisa was also a beloved, wife, mother and sister.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Diana Captian; She is survived by her husband, Clifford Rogers of North Hanover Twp.; her step-father, Carl Josiah of Las Vegas, NV.; two sons, Dion Josiah, Dominick Davis,; a step-son, Clifford D. Rogers; one daughter, Jackee Davis, a step-daughter, Katrina Rose; sister and brother-in-law, Andrea and Arthur Josiah and two nieces, Ariana and Marishka.
A memorial service will be Friday, September 3, 2010 at 11:30am at the T ilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street, New Egypt, N.J. 08533. Visitation Friday from 10:30am until the time of service. Internment will take place at a later date.


 
 
Jack A. Moore
August 26, 2010

Jack A. Moore of Whiting passed away Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010 at Community Medical Center in Toms River. He was 67.

He had been a lifelong resident of New Egypt before moving to Whiting 19 years ago. He was a retired lab technician, employed by Ciba-Geigy Corp. of Toms River with more than 25 years of service. Jack was a member of the Woodruff Rod and Gun Club in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ivins and Donna (Carter) Moore, and his three brothers, Frank, Jim and Roger Moore, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Sean Hoff of New Egypt; his son, Edward Moore of New Egypt; longtime companion, Kim Portash of Whiting; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, NJ 08533. Burial will follow in the Jacobstown Baptist Church Cemetery, Jacobstown-Arneytown Road. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Heart Association, 1 Union St., Suite 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691.


 
 
Eva A. Ross
August 26, 2010

Eva A. Ross was born in Cotton Grove, N.C. on Dec. 19, 1917 to Etta Meningall and Ray Owens. She departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, after battling illness for four years. She professed Christ at an early age, joined and was baptized at Smith Grove Baptist Church. Eva attended public schools in Lexington, N.C. She and her family came to Brooklyn, N.Y. via train in 1929. Eva became a member of the St. Paul Community Baptist Church in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Soon after, Eva married James E. Ross, and out of that loving marriage came Phillip M. Ross. In the early 1950s the Ross family moved from the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn to make Cream Ridge, N.J. their home. Eva quickly became accustomed to the community in New Jersey. Eva and her husband, James (Jimmy), planted their own vegetable garden at the side of their home every summer. In addition, she enjoyed going to DeWolf and Hollock U-Pick farms to pick and buy fresh vegetables. She had an active spiritual and social life within her church — Shiloh Baptist Church. Eva enjoyed baking cakes to assist in contributing for various church functions. Eva was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.

Eva’s husband, and two sons, Howard and Richard, preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn, her son, Phillip; her sister, Elizabeth; three grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves two devoted friends, Sandra Brown and Shirley Johnson.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main St., New Egypt, NJ 08533. Burial wil follow at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, North Hanover Township, N.J. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.


 
 

David E. Brusnahan
August 24, 2010

David E. Brusnahan, age 83, passed away Tuesday, August 24 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Galloway Township after a lengthy illness. Born in Trenton, he was a longtime resident of New Egypt before moving to Mays Landing in 1995.

Son of the late John S. and Ann (Clover) Brusnahan, David served in the US Navy during WWII aboard the Battleship New Jersey. He then worked for Public Works in the Trenton area and when he moved to New Egypt he worked for his family’s business, Blunts Furniture Store. David will be remembered for his love of birds, flowers and the horses. He will be surely missed by all of his friends at the Atlantic City Race Track.

Dave was predeceased by his wife Adelaide (Blum) Brusnahan, a daughter, Debra (Brusnahan) Blessing and four brothers, John, Harry, Paul and Dicky Brusnahan. He is survived by his loving grandson, Cody Ryan Blessing; many nieces and nephews and his loving sister-in-law, Eleanor Brusnahan of Trenton.

Graveside services for Dave will be held on Friday, August 27 at 1:00 PM at the Jacobstown Cemetery, Schoolhouse Road in Jacobstown under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).

MSGT Ret. Jay C. Rigney
August 22, 2010

Retired Master Sergeant Jay C. Rigney, age 50, of Cookstown, NJ, formerly of Kankakee, IL died Sunday, August 22 at home with his loving wife and daughters.

He was born May 22, 1960 in Kankakee, Illinois, the son of James and Marie Rigney. He graduated from Grace Baptist Academy in Kankakee and attended Northland Baptist Bible College. Jay served 21 years in the United States Air Force and was a Gulf War Veteran. He was employed by Logistics 20/20 in Chester, Virginia and worked overseas as a senior logistic coordinator. Jay enjoyed traveling all over the world, rides on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, NASCAR and the Chicago Bears, White Sox and Blackhawks.

Jay was predeceased by his father, James Rigney; two sisters, Bertha Prue and Beverly Prue and his father-in-law, James Krohn, Sr. Surviving are his wife, the former Yvonne V. Krohn, whom he married September 7, 1986 in Momence, IL; three daughters, Megan, Cagney and Lauren; a grandson, Tyler Kunkel and father Ryan Kunkel; his mother, Marie Rigney; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Jim and Pat Rigney of Kankakee, IL, Mike and Marie Rigney of Taylor, SC, John Rigney of Los Angeles, CA and Jack and Teresa of Bradley, IL; his mother-in-law, Rosalind Krohn; a brother-in-law, James Krohn, Jr. and three sisters-in-law and spouses, Melody and Gary Drake, Heather and Les Fox and Amanda and Danny Johnson.

Visitation and funeral services for Jay will be held on Tuesday, August 31 at the McGuire Chapel 2, 3827 Schoolhouse Road, McGuire AFB, NJ. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the funeral service at 7:00 PM. Interment with Air Force Burial honors will be on Wednesday, September 1 at 1:00 PM at the chapel of the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road in Wrightstown, NJ.
Follow the burial, family, friends and coworkers are invited to a luncheon at the Cookstown Senior Center, 9 Main Street in Cookstown, NJ.


 
 
Dorothy H. Szpila
August 20, 2010

Dorothy H. Szpila, age 91, of New Egypt died Friday, August 20 at Whiting Healthcare in Whiting, NJ. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Bayonne before moving to New Egypt 9 years ago.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Szpila and a daughter, Jacqueline Kuryla. She is survived by a son Howard Stubaus and wife Rhoda of Florida; a daughter, Vivian Curtis and husband Raymond of New Egypt; a brother, Christopher Kreutter and wife Pat of Bayonne; nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Dorothy will be held on Monday, August 23 at 8:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with calling hours on Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.

Norman K. Von Schmidt, Sr.
August 20, 2010

Norman K. Von Schmidt, Sr., age 79, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at his home in Waretown, NJ with his family by his side. Born in Rosedale, NJ, he was a longtime resident of New Egypt before moving to Waretown 15 years ago.

Norman retired from The Hibbert Group in Trenton where he was a printer. He enjoyed fishing, his boat, and his life down at the shore. He also was a member of the New Egypt Elks Lodge No. 2457.

Son of the late Felix and Pearl Von Schmidt, he is survived by his wife of 59 years, Margaret “Peggy” Von Schmidt; two sons and daughters-in-law, Norman K. Von Schmidt, Jr. and wife Diane of New Egypt and Gary Von Schmidt and wife Vicki of Red Feather Lakes, Colorado; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Peggy Ann Vail of Bridgewater, Jeanne Snyder and husband Eric of North Hanover, Dorenda Kerr of New Egypt and Christine Haines and husband Joseph of Columbus; 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, August 24 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM with Elks Services on Tuesday evening at 8:00 PM.

Joan Rader
August 18, 2010

Joan Rader, age 88, of New Egypt died August 18 at Somerset Valley Rehab & Nursing Center in Bound Brook, NJ. Born in Gloucester, England, she was a resident of New Egypt for the past 70 years.

Joan was a member of several area Senior Citizens groups and was a member of the Hornerstown Baptist Church.

Wife of the late Leslie M. Rader, Joan is survived by three sisters, Margaret Scaler of Raritan, NJ and Grace Frith and Sylvia Greening both of England and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services for Joan will be held on Monday, August 23 at 12:00 Noon at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow in the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Arneytown. Paul G. Smith
August 18, 2010

Paul G. Smith, age 62, of North Hanover Twp. died Wednesday, August 18 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Born in Camden, NJ he was a resident of North Hanover for the past 19 years.

Paul was a union electrician with the IBEW Local 269 in Trenton. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and canoeing and also was a gunsmith.

Paul was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Jeannette Smith. He is survived by his wife, Linda C. (nee Kubert) Smith; a brother, Charles H. Smith of Davidsonville, MD; a sister, Jeannette Nicholson of Arcadia, FL and many friends.

Gustave A. "Gus" Husenitza
August 11, 2010

Gustave (Gus) A. Husenitza of Browns Mills, NJ, passed away August 11, 2010 at Medford Care Center-LTC in Medford Township. He was 90.
Born in Newark, NJ, he was a long time resident of Atlantic Highlands and Middletown before moving to Pottsville, PA for 7 years then Browns Mills in 1999. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy and then worked for Anderson Equipment in Atlantic Highlands as a diesel mechanic, retiring in 1983. Gus was a member of the American Legion in Atlantic Highlands, Trout’s Unlimited in Schuylkill Haven, PA and a Ham Radio operator. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward A. Husenitza and his mother and father, Gustave A. and Theresa Husenitza. He is survived by his wife Joan Emery Husenitza of Browns Mills, NJ; seven children and their spouses, Leila Mae Husenitza Scott (Robert) of Blackshear, GA, Theresa A. Husenitza McTernan Fant (Hank Jr.) of Gap, PA, Gustave A. Husenitza III (Audrey) of South Carolina, Alan I. Stevens of Jupiter, FL, Robert E. Stevens of Asbury Park, NJ, Gail J. Van Dusen (Henry) of Glassboro, NJ and Ellen L. Jones (fiancé Ralph Connor) of Bordentown, 23 grandchildren and spouses, Charlette “Cindi” Benson (David), Charles Crow (Audrey), Cheryl Wilson (John), Roberta Scott, David Scott (Lisa), James McTernan, Jr. (Gayle), David M. Margaret M. (Peggy) Sadlier, age 65, of Jacobstown passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton on July 24, 2010, surrounded by her loving husband and very close dear friends.
Born and raised in Brockton, MA, she lived in the Princeton area for many years before moving to Jacobstown in 1998.
Margaret was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She owned and operated Accounting Plus in Jacobstown, NJ.
Margaret’s favorite activities were quilting, sewing, gardening and traveling.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Cecelia Grady; her mother, Helen E. Grady; aunt and uncle, Mary and Frank Galligan
She is survived by her loving husband, James R. Sadlier, Sr. of Jacobstown, NJ; James’s three children and their spouses, James R. Sadlier, Jr. and Debbie of Lumberton, NJ; Barbara Anne Leacott of Lumberton, NJ; Scott E. Sadlier and Stel of Orlando, FL; eight grandchildren, Jaclyn, Eric, Jacob, Nicole, Brooke Anne, Tyler, Ethan and Mason; cousins, Judy O’Connor of Cape Coral, FL, Kenneth Galligan of Brockton, MA, Scott D. Patrick G. McCaffery
July 16, 2010

Patrick G. McCaffery, age 89, of New Egypt died Friday, July 16 at Neptune Rehab & Care Center in Neptune. Born in New York City, he was a resident of New Egypt since 1958.

Pat was a retired Major with the US Army, serving from 1941 to 1961 and receiving a Bronze Star. He also was an Insurance Agent for State Farm for 40 years.

Pat was predeceased by he wife Ruth M. (Keefe) McCaffery in 2004. He is survived by three sons, Patrick J. McCaffery of Mountain Rest, SC, and Gregory McCaffery and David McCaffery both of New Egypt and a grandson, Cory McCaffery of Indiana.

Calling hours for Pat will be held on Saturday, July 24 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Burial with full military honors will be at 9:00 AM on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.


 
 
Hildegard E. Preston
July 16, 2010

Hildegard Ernestina Preston, age 81, of Ventnor and formerly of Wrightstown, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, July 16. She was born on May 9, 1929 in Traben-Trarbach, Germany.

Hilde was a kind and generous woman and had an especially soft spot in her heart for children and the elderly. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by so many.

Hilde was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Joseph Preston in 2007. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Karin and Robert Trasferini of Ventnor, NJ; eight grandchildren, John Agger of Boise, ID, Helena Agger of Ventnor, Shannon Anaya of Boise, ID, Eva Mitchell of Egg Harbor, NJ and Dennis, Christopher, Aaron and Clifford Trasferini all of Ventnor and five great grandchildren, Angelo Sochocky, Joseph and Michael Agger, Nija Mitchell and Jon Johnson.

Funeral services for Hilde will be held on Wednesday, July 21 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Pastor Steve Wright officiating. Calling hours will be on Wednesday morning from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Margaret L. "Peggy" Giza
July 14, 2010

Margaret L. “Peggy” Giza, age 60, of Wrightstown died Wednesday, July 14 at Samaritan Hospice in Mount Holly. Born in New York, she was an area resident for the past 25 years and formerly of Long Island, NY.

Peggy had been employed as a manager for the Wrightstown Apartments. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word searches, yard sales and her cats.

Peggy is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and David Conover of Ocean Gate and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jonathan Giza of Tabernacle and Edmund and Jennifer Giza of Aspers, PA.

A memorial service for Peggy will be held on Saturday, July 17 at 4:00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt. Calling hours will be on Saturday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at the funeral home.

Vickylynn (nee Zazzara) Mumpower, age 55, of Browns Mills died Saturday, July 10 at Deborah Hospital in Browns Mills. Born in Plainfield, NJ, she was a resident of Browns Mills for the past 5 years and formerly of New Egypt.

Vickylynn was predeceased by her step-father, William Sarosick. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Mumpower; her mother, Elizabeth Sarosick of Toms River; her father and step-mother, Pasquale and Virginia Zazzara of Toms River; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Alan South of Browns Mills; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Jessyka Pollin of Delran; three step-sons, Jonathan, Justin and Jeffrey Mumpower; a sister and brother-in-law, LuAnn and Thomas Moore of Maine; a step-brother, Frank Pasquarella of Toms River; four grandchildren, Leonard, Ella, Anna Lynn and Mia; a niece, Taryn; many friends and also her dogs, Jersey and Harry.

Lester W. Sager of Hedding passed away Friday, July 9,2010, at home.
Born in Florence, N.J., he was a lifelong area resident of Hedding.
He worked at Mercer Rubber for several years and later retired from NWL. He served in the Air National Guard serving in France for one year.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary (Coutier), Sager and daughter Donna Sager; a brother and sister, Melvin and Sarah Sager; his parents, Samuel and Elsie Sager. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lorrie and Russell Colligan of Morehead,NC; five brothers and three sister-in-laws, Stanley and Nancy Sager of New Egypt; Samuel Sager of Arneytown; Jesse and Maryann Sager of Mt. Laurel; Kenneth and Carol Sager of Columbus; David Sager of Jobstown; four sisters and three brother-in-laws, Elsie Sager of Mt. Laurel; Amy and George Alley of Huntington, W.Va.; Sharon and John Scott of Vincentown; Rosalee and Frank Zamensky of Sykesville; three grandchildren, Nicole Colligan, Derek and Damon Arroyo all of Morehead,NC.; several nieces and nephews and special friend Helen Dotson.

Stanley H. Schaeffer
July 5, 2010

Stanley H. Schaeffer, age 72, of New Egypt died Monday, July 5 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY he has been a resident of New Egypt for the past 20 years.

Stanley graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn and entered Brooklyn College where he majored in Biology and graduated with a BS Degree in 1959. He then went on to Long Island University, majoring in Secondary Education with a minor in General Science, graduating in 1965 with a Masters Degree and was awarded 30 credits tuition from the Mayors Committee on Scholastic Achievement. Stanley taught high school science in Brooklyn from 1961 through 1974. He also was a teacher of Physical Education, a Lab Specialist for Junior High School and a substitute teacher of general science for Junior High School. He held a New York State Teaching Certificate in Biology, Chemistry and General Science. Stanley was a hard worker and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who especially loved his great grandsons so much.

Stanley was predeceased by a daughter, Margaret L. Cifuentez. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Idalia M. Schaeffer; a daughter, Diane J. Allen and husband Mark of New Egypt; two sons, Bruce E. Schaeffer and wife Lori of Mantua, NJ and Gerald M. Schaeffer of Wrightstown; six grandchildren, Kristin and Shane Murphy, Samantha and Joseph Cifuentez and Andrew and Kevin Schaeffer; two great grandsons, Teddy McCrone and Kaenin Tornquist; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Isabel Lankford of Pennsylvania; two cousins, Marilyn Trimble of Florida and Barry Ofer of California and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Stanley will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at 10:00 AM at Princeton Memorial Park, 404 Gordon Road in Robbinsville, NJ under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Stanley’s memory may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.

Thelma E. (nee Foulks) Southard, age 90, of Hainesport died Saturday, July 3 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly. Born in New Egypt, she was a longtime resident of Hainesport.

Thelma had worked at W.T. Grants in Mt. Holly and retired as a bookkeeper for the Burlington County Library in Mt. Holly. She was a member of the Mt. Holly Methodist Church.

Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Amos Southard and by two brothers, Ivins and Donald Foulks. She is survived three brothers and a sister, Earl Foulks of New Egypt, C. Russell Foulks and wife Phyllis of Jacobstown, Shirley Fox of Mt. Holly and William Foulks of Philadelphia and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Thelma will be held on Wednesday, July 7 at 11:00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with burial to follow in Emleys Hill Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be on Wednesday morning from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
